RODEO 101

Rodeos are a blend of skill, tradition, and excitement, making them a beloved part of country culture. If you’ve never been to a rodeo before, you are in for a treat.  Learn the basics right here.

Bull riding is the ultimate test of strength, skill, and sheer grit. One rider, one 2,000-pound bull, and an intense eight-second battle to stay in the saddle. With every buck, twist, and turn, the bull fights to launch its challenger, making this heart-pounding showdown a true spectacle of courage and determination!

Barrel racing is a high-speed showdown where cowgirls and their horses race against the clock. Precision, agility, and trust are key as they weave through a tight three-barrel pattern at top speed. Every second counts in this electrifying display of horsemanship and determination.

Team roping is the only rodeo event where two cowboys team up for victory. In this high-speed contest, the header and heeler must work together to rope the steer with precision and timing. Trust, determination, and skill make all the difference—because once that steer exits the chute, anything can happen!

Trick riding is a breathtaking spectacle where fearless riders perform gravity-defying stunts on galloping horses. With jaw-dropping acrobatics, daring hangs, and high-speed maneuvers, this performance art showcases creativity, strength, and showmanship!

Bareback riding is one of the toughest tests of grit in rodeo. With no saddle or reins, the cowboy has nothing but his grip, balance, and raw strength to stay on a bucking bronc. Every jolt and twist pushes him to the limit, making those eight seconds feel like a lifetime in this intense head-to-head.

Saddle bronc riding is rodeo’s classic event, rooted in the traditions of the Old West. What began as a way for cowboys to break and train wild horses has evolved into a thrilling display of skill and strength. With every leap and kick, riders honor the time-honored legacy of this historic rodeo sport.
